'I'd love to have Genevieve as my life partner' - D'banj says in new interview

D'banj told me something so sweet in confidence about Genevieve, but nah, sorry I can't spill... hehe. It's nice to hear him say he would love to marry her. I wish he'd just stop saying it and just do it.

He granted an interview to reporters on Wednesday which was published in Punch today where he talked about his career and his relationship with Genevieve. And guys, please stop all this 'it's just a publicity stunt' It wasn't. They didn't just date, they were madly in love. Read the interview below.

Singer, Dapo Oyebanji, aka D’banj, finally opened up on his love life in a rare meeting with journalists in Lagos on Wednesday.
The self-styled Kokomaster was clearly in his elements as he talked at length, amid occasional bouts of laughter, about his career and other issues that were important to him. One of the subjects was about his rumoured relationship with Nollywood actress, Genevieve Nnaji.
Judging by the manner in which the actress’ name kept popping off his lips, it was obvious that D’banj had a very soft spot for her.
Aware that the grapevine had bristled with the rumour that he was romantically involved with Genevieve, ever since she appeared in the 2010 video of his hit song, ‘Fall in Love’, the singer said the actress had played a role in his success.
“Apart from the fact that she is my friend, she has been a part of my success. There is no way you are going to tell my story that Genevieve’s name will not come up because she featured in my biggest song of all time, Fall in Love. So if E True Story comes to Nigeria to interview me, she will definitely be called upon to tell my story,” he said.
As if to confirm that there was more to his relationship with the actress than he had always admitted, D’banj added,
“I would love to have Genevieve as my wife.  We never can tell what God plans for us in the future. I have studied her and I realised that anyone that has her as his woman has found himself a treasure. Just like the Bible says, any man who finds a wife, finds a good thing.”
On remaining relevant, he said:
“So much has happened in the last 18 months and I am very thankful to God. By the Grace of God, I have remained relevant for nearly a decade in the music industry and I have released hit songs every year. Also, I am glad that I have been chosen to headline the Hennessy Artistry this year. This is one brand that understands the importance of aligning with the entertainment industry.
“My career is barely 10 years old. But with the success I have achieved so far, it feels like three decades already. Within my first 10 years as a musician, I have recorded the biggest song and shot the most viewed music video of all time, ‘Oliver Twist’. I must say I am humbled and getting ready to take over,” he said.
Without mincing words, D’banj noted that the history of his career and the resulting accomplishments will be incomplete without mentioning his humble beginning with the defunct Mo’Hits Records. The mere mention of his erstwhile colleagues, including Don Jazzy, seemed to awaken nostalgic feelings in him.
“If I say I don’t miss Don Jazzy, I am lying. I have spent the better part of my career with him. I was married to him in a way (laughs). So I miss everything about Mo’Hits: the family, the movement, and the vibe of being in the studio with him. I miss the jokes and the arguments, but I have since keyed into the notion that nothing can stop a moving train.
“Nevertheless we can always do music together. The track, ‘Top of the World’ was produced by a Grammy Award Winner. The songs ‘Finally’ and ‘Don’t Tell Me Nonsense’ was produced by my producer while ‘Oliver Twist’ was produced by Don Jazzy. So, why won’t I have him on my 10 years anniversary album?
“I have never said I am a musician; I am an entertainer. Some people say I can pick up a microphone and become a comedian. Therefore nobody should come and ask if I want to go into acting because they should know I am already an actor. It depends on when the right script and concept lands in my hands.
“For now, I am concerned about achieving new things and breaking new grounds. By the time I enter Hollywood, I believe that I’ll become as successful as I have been as a singer. The movie titled ‘I am Banga Lee’, starring Genevieve, to be released in 2014, won’t be a bad idea,” He said.

Van Persie Break Kluivert Record Today

The 30-year-old has admitted his surprise shrugging off a pre-match injury to score a hat-trick in Netherlands' 8-1 thrashing of Hungary on Friday

Robin van Persie has admitted that he had his doubts over whether he would even feature Netherlands against Hungary on Friday, let alone breaking Patrick Kluivert's Oranje goalscoring record.

The Manchester United forward went into the tie two goals behind the former Barcelona star's tally and netted a brilliant hat-trick to take the record in his own right.

Van Persie was subbed off an hour into the match, but admits he had only discovered he would play a few hours before kick-off.

“I didn’t expect to play actually. We took a small gamble," the 30-year-old told SBS6.

“It went better the last days with my toe. This morning we decided that I would play an hour. I didn’t expect that it would go like this.”

Van Persie was quick to shift praise onto his team-mates, while admitting he was not thrilled with how he started the match.

“In the first five minutes I lost two balls. I was not happy with that. But the team reacted well and we didn’t concede goals from it. After the first ten minutes we showed really good football.

“The greatest moment of the night was my second goal. The pass from Arjen [Robben] was brilliant. It was a floater. I only had to give the last touch with my head. The first one was a bit with my shoulder.

“When I was a young boy, I was good with headers. After that I let it slip a bit. It wasn’t a weapon of mine.

“In the last couple of years I trained more with my head. That has worked for me. You can see that now.”

Netherlands complete their 2014 World Cup qualification campaign with a trip to Turkey on Tuesday.

Nigerian Exclusive Comedian AY Is Now A Film Producer; Shooting a movie In US

Nigerian best comedian Ayo Makun aka AY, is currently in the US producing a film  entitled 30 Days in Atlanta – the adventures of Akpos. The film, which is said to be  a Romantic Comedy stars  Hollywood stars like Lynn Whitfield, Vivica Fox, and Karlie Redd. Of course, he wouldn’t shoot a film without Nollywood and Ghollywood heavyweights represented (the film is about Akpos, remember), so the likes of Richard Mofe Damijo (RMD), Desmond Elliot, Ramesy Nouah, Rachael Oniga, Omoni Oboli, Ada Ameh (an Akpos film will be deficient without her), Juliet Ibrahim, Majid Michel  are all on ground for the “work”, not forgetting that AY himself is an “actor” and will be featuring in the film.

A.Y SPEAKING; “This one is the first Movie I would produce. It’s like having your first child. It brings so much joy. Interestingly, the story also is mine. I’ve watched the movie countless times in my imagination, and I’m so fulfilled seeing the physical equivalent of my dreams unfold in my lifetime here in Atlanta. “It’s been a family affair on set. I have a great cast and crew here. We love and respect one another. Everybody knows what to do and when to do it. Honestly, I’m enjoying every bit of the shoot. “We hope to wrap shooting up by the end of the October, and God willing by November 3rd, we shall begin the Nigeria-Phase of the Shoot.”
This is a movie that might change the face of nollywood or  what do you think

Nigeria Player of the Week: Peter Odemwingie of Cardiff City

There is nothing to be said again about Peter Odemwingie – he has had loads of ink since January when he made that infamous car interview at the gates of QPR’s training ground.

He scored his first league goal in nine months for Cardiff City last Saturday, though it was scant consolation for the Bluebirds as they lost the second consecutive home game.

But the Nigerian would have been glad to get another chapter started as he hopes to get back to the level that he attained three years ago when he won the Player of the Month award twice in one season.

Odemwingie had also helped the newly promoted side achieve their first away win with a 2-1 win over Fulham though he may have to score as much as 15 goals to keep his team in the Premiership.

'I deserved to play up front' - Rooney reignites Fergie feud'

The striker wanted to leave Manchester United this summer and, although he claims he is now "settled", he once again dodged contract questions

Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney has revealed his frustration at being asked to play out of position by Sir Alex Ferguson last season, and once again refused to commit his future to the club.

Rooney was desperate to leave Old Trafford this summer only to be thwarted by the club's refusal to sell him to a Premier League rival, with Arsenal and Chelsea the two clubs to show firm interest.

The England striker has started the season in fine form, scoring five goals in eight games, but although he says he has felt "happy" and "settled" for months he also told of his irritation at not being played up front alongside Robin van Persie.

"Everyone at the club knew where I wanted to play and I think that's why I was disappointed," he told reporters. "I got told to play in midfield and I didn't want to. I just think there had to come a point when, for my own career, I had to be a bit selfish really.
"I actually felt when I played in midfield I did okay, but I didn't want to play there. I've had no problem in the past playing out of position, but I felt I deserved the right to play in my position and that wasn't happening.

"I think, naturally, I was a bit disappointed and maybe that affected some of the games I played. I know myself that last year wasn't my best season but there were times when I was playing in different positions.

"I didn't feel I got a consistent run of games up front. Sometimes when you're not playing in one position all the time it's difficult to adapt."

Yet despite talking publicly about some of the reasons for his unhappiness at United over the last few months, the 27-year-old also claimed that he never, in fact, had any problems during the transfer window.

"To be honest, I've been settled all summer," he added. "I really have been happy all summer. From the outside looking in, it might not have seemed like it, but I have been settled.

"My wife had a new child and I'm just delighted to be back playing and injury-free. I've got my head down and worked hard. I've been focused and I've been wanting to prove to people that I am a top player. That's what I've really tried to do."

Manchester United rejected two bids for Rooney from Chelsea during pre-season, before Jose Mourinho urged the striker to make his intentions known during the final week of the transfer window.

Rooney decided to remain silent, publicly at least, as he quickly realised that the Red Devils were not interested in a sale: "I'm sure the club made that clear," he said. "Obviously there's been a lot of stuff happening and everyone has been waiting for me to say something, but I've spoken to the people who matter at the club and we've known ourselves what was going on.

"I didn't want to come out saying anything. I just wanted to concentrate on my football. That's what I've done and that's what I'll continue to do. I'm not going to go around saying: 'I wanted to stay' or 'I wanted to leave'. I'll concentrate on my football and see what happens after that."

It is not the first time Rooney, whose contract expires at the end of next season, has used that line to divert awkward questions about his current situation. When asked by ITV if he would be signing a new contract at Old Trafford following a Champions League match in September, the striker flatly stated that he is concentrating on his football. He employed a similar tactic again in Wednesday's press conference.

"You can see I'm playing and I'm happy in my football. I'll have more discussions with the club and we'll see what happens from there."

Reports at the beginning of the season suggested that Van Persie was unhappy with the playing tactics and high-intensity training implemened by Ferguson's replacement, David Moyes, but Rooney, for one, says he is enjoying life under his former Everton mentor, including the extra workload.

"It's a bit different in terms of David Moyes and his staff coming in," he continued. "The training is different, there's a different style, a different way of thinking about how he wants us to play.

"Honestly, the training has been so hard. We've done a lot more running. Long running, quicker running, sharper running.

"I feel that's really benefited me. I feel as fit as I ever have done. I had a couple of injuries pre-season but I feel great and in good shape. It's a mixture of things, but I am happy and I am enjoying my football."

Ethiopia vs. Nigeria: The History of a Contest

This article reviews the footballing history that exists between Ethiopia and Nigeria ahead of their crunch World Cup Qualifying Match this weekend.

ANALYSIS
By Demola Dawodu

Nigerians are looking forward to the World Cup Qualifying double-header against the Walya Antelopes of Ethiopia with cautious optimism. The Super Eagles may possess a multi-talented group of players, but they will be acutely aware of the threats posed by their hosts.

Nigeria are ranked 36th in the world and 4th in Africa, with the Antelopes a distant 93rd in the FIFA rankings and 25th in the continental hierarchy. On paper, the gulf in class is colossal, but Ethiopia are an emerging force in African football. The East African side qualified for the last Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa after a 31-year absence and finished top of their World Cup qualifying group ahead of Bafana Bafana, even after being docked three points for fielding an ineligible player.

The Antelopes, coached by Sewnet Bishaw, are known for their slick passing and the high pressing game they exhibited at the last AFCON. However, the relative inexperience of the side might just be their undoing against a vastly talented Nigerian side who are, let us not forget, the reigning African champions. The Ethiopians, with their squad predominantly based in the nation’s top flight, may struggle against the diverse array of superstars that Stephen Keshi can call upon.

The two teams have met seven times before, with Nigeria winning four of those matches. Ethiopia recorded a famous victory against the Super Eagles in a 1994 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, while two further fixtures have ended in draws.

The two countries first locked horns at the 1982 AFCON in Libya, where Nigeria defeated Ethiopia 3-0. The current Super Eagles coach, the aforementioned Keshi, grabbed a brace on that eventful day. Ademola Adeshina also found the net.

The second meeting was an international friendly at the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, in 1993 which the Eagles won by a goal to nil.

The sole Ethiopian victory was a 1-0 triumph on home soil in April 1993.
Victor Moses | The Game-changer against Ethiopia in the Cup of Nations

The next meeting was on July 24, 1993, in the return leg of a 1994 Nations Cup qualifier when Nigeria thrashed the East Africans 6-0 with the late Rashidi 'Yeking' Yekini scoring a hat-trick in a thrilling game that also marked the international debut of Sunday Oliseh. Ethiopia’s one brief revolution against the established order was quashed swiftly and emphatically by Clemens Westerhof and his troops.
